I wasn't born here
I came here around 8-9 ish..bla blah blah!
Damn it I've been kinda American for a while now!
Don't get me wrong I'm very proud of my roots
My nationality will forever be Mexican
but I've understood that this is my homeland
This is were I hope to get old
to raise my children & one day retire
I want to own a home, buy health insurance
maybe a little life insurance
Hope to stay out of debt
& travel all around this beautiful country
and maybe exit and get to return
I learned the language, started celebrating American holidays
Married my sweet "mutt"
I was here on 9.11.01
It changed my life
It made me proud to be an American
Even if it's not on paper
It is true in my heart.
